Can men and women be in the same platoon or unit in the army?
Q. I'm thinking about joining the army. Can men and women be in the same unit? If so, would they sleep in the same room?
Asked by - Thu Apr 1 00:17:21 2010 - Military - 2 Answers - Comments

A. With the exception of units in which women are not allowed to serve, men and women always serve together. You can expect to spend most of your time in units that have more men than women simply because there are more men in the service. In the barracks in garrison you can expect to have your own room with a kitchen/bathroom adjoining you to another "suite" mate. your suite mate will be a woman. When you are deployed your roommate will be the same sex. There may be times when 10-12 people are thrown together over night in a large tent, but that is rare.

In the Army which way does the PSG go when the PL posts in front of the platoon?
Q. For example, the 1SG is in front of 2 platoons with the PSG's in front of their respective platoon and the Platoon Leaders in the rear of each platoon. When the CO comes to the front, the PSG is supposed to go to the rear of his/her platoon and the PL comes to the front and takes his/her place. Does the PSG go to the right or left when posting to the rear and which way does he/she post back to the front when the 1SG comes back up?
Asked by usarmyguard06 - Thu Mar 25 18:16:19 2010 - Military - 1 Answers - Comments

A. The PSG goes around the side the squad leaders are on (the left facing forward) and the PL oes the opposite direction. The PSG post 3 steps in front of the platoon and the PL 6 steps

Today our platoon SGT said we needed to have a 110 GT score to stay in the army?
Q. However most of us soldiers have a score of 105 or less. My mos is a truck driver why does it need to be so high?
Asked by little john - Wed Aug 17 08:56:39 2011 - Military - 6 Answers - Comments

A. I remember in the early 90s, during the sever draw-down, you needed to have a GT of 110 or higher to re-enlist. Interesting if they are going back to that. They have classes you can go to to raise your GT score. I suggest you look into those if you plan on staying in. Edit: According to the latest policy: " Soldiers must meet all trainability and educational requirements for the specific option for which reenlisting" Your battalion has a Reenlistment NCO/Carer Counselor. I suggest you make an appointment to see him/her and get the current requirements. Edit: Mgman...are you seriously that stupid? You need certain scores for certain reenlistment and training options. Say your a SGT 92A and you want to reclass to Special Forces you… [cont.]

is thier a pc platoon in the army just like there is in the marines?
Q. Okay say you dont pass the test when you first get to basic in army bootcamp how long are you sent to that camp for ? obviously but that doesnt help me how long is it ?
Asked by krissy - Wed Oct 28 21:24:11 2009 - Military - 2 Answers - Comments

A. It actually doesn't matter if you pass your diagnostic or the first couple PT tests, as long as you pass your EOC pt test. If you are really sucking by the time you are supposed to graduate they might send you to the rehab company or whatever it was called for like 2 weeks. We were told if we dont pass our diagnostic we would be sent there but none of us ever were, but it also might depend on where your going.

How can I get information about my deceased grandfathers Army ranking, platoon, etc?
Q. I know that my Pop was in the Army, but no one in my family knows much more, just that he was in the Army and I would like to know more about it; just not sure where to begin to look. Thanks Everyone!!
Asked by Michelle S - Sat Mar 28 08:31:28 2009 - Military - 5 Answers - Comments

A. Go to: As a family member you can request and receive his records, medical records and even his medals and awards if he has any. You will need to know some basic info on him, like full name, DOB, place of birth, place and dates of entrance and discharge, service and social security number..etc. The process is pretty simple though. As military records are public property, anyone can request records on any individual who served. However if your not family member you will only receive a brief which states basic information like dates of service, type of discharge and awards..etc. Hope this helps. Email me if you need more help. I do this exact thing as a volunteer for the American Legion and VFW.

What determines your platoon and company in army AIT?
Q. And is it random or will it stay the same as when in BCT? Like if in Alpha will I remain in Alpha.
Asked by MadLamb - Fri Sep 17 19:25:16 2010 - Military - 1 Answers - Comments

A. The comapnies stagger when they start training, so alpha might start in august, bravo in sept, etc. Most of the time it's week/weeks apart, not month/months though. So it's whatever the first one is that they have a slot for you. Platoon is almost always based off of last name

How many snipers are there in 1 platoon (US ARMY/MARINES)?
Q. in average numbers??? i think it would be better if the whole platoon are snipers lol
Asked by Kevin - Mon Apr 27 06:40:52 2009 - Military - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Snipers in the Marine Corps (scout snipers) are assigned to a Battalion level. They are assigned special tasks which could put them attached to a task force or a platoon. Specialty jobs like the 8541 are like B-Billets - they are never considered to be in a platoon. In Vietnam, snipers were assigned to platoons experimentally as well as dog handlers, such is not the case anymore. Your attachment as a sniper in the Corps also depends on whether or not your pig is anti material (carriers of the M82A3SASR) or as an Anti personnel sniper (carriers of the M40A1DLE and associated weapons of similarity) Sometimes on attachments and special projects Snipers will be assigned to just 6 man teams composed completely of snipers - their typcial task in… [cont.]

Asked by Bob R - Mon Aug 17 21:36:56 2009 - Military - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Injuries. Some soldier just give up. Remember NSDQ-Night stalkers don't quit. Green platoon is hard and you do a lot of physical training and test. Stay strong. Stay motivated and you can make it. You are limited to where you can be stationed but 160th has shorter deployments but your rotation comes up more often. You will have better opportunities to go to school like Airborne, Air Assault etc. Good luck.

Intelligence Section Commander VS Army Military Police Platoon Commander in the Army?
Q. Which job would be better and reasons why? What does each job involve? The more indepth the answer the better.
Asked by - Sun Dec 5 16:33:00 2010 - Military - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Well, Im going to be making a lot of assumptions, since your question is a bit vague. I'll try to answer as best i can. A section leader in the Army is in charge of two squads, he is not a commander, because only officers command, and few officers at that. a Section Leader is usually a Staff Sergeant, with around 6+ years of experience in his field. You would not be able to enter as a Section Leader, you would start as a team member, then team leader, and then a squad leader. Even then, your unit might not use Sections, they are not an official unit in the US military. This is an enlisted job, so you would have to take 8 weeks of Basic Combat Training, and even longer doing Advanced Individual Training. Since its intelligence, you would… [cont.]

A. The problem is that you're claiming a back injury and those are always suspicious. There's no way to confirm or deny back pain. Countless malingerers have used back pain as an excuse to get out of duty and work and to con a medical discharge out of the service and collect disability. I'm not saying that you're doing that but I can understand why your NCOs would be pissed at you. Until your situation is resolved one way or another, you are going to have to take a lot of crap just so long as the NCOs don't step over the line.

does RAF ragiment gunner has the option to join the pathfinder platoon of the army?
Q. I heard The pathfinder regiment is triservice? does RAF ragiment gunner has the option to join the pathfinder platoon of the army?
Asked by - Sun Nov 7 04:57:29 2010 - Military - 5 Answers - Comments

A. Yes they do, all service personnel can ask to be transferred at any time in their career, while they may choose to do so, they do not "have to leave", in order to transfer, but often suffer a drop in their rankings, ( and their wages between corresponding ranks ) if they choose to move over, to another service. I am not sure what an army pathfinder unit is, I am aware that the RAF have such a unit as a temporary position, which was to guide members of a "wing" to a destination, during wartime, dropping flares to indicate a target zone, or drop zone for parachutists, when navigation and bomb aiming, were not as clear as it is nowadays. But I have a relative who has "moved over" a couple of times, between… [cont.]

Q. What different soldiers were in a platoon? medic, grenadier, sniper, etc. Thanks

A. I think they were still using the WWII model, but I'm not entirely sure. There would have been 36 men per platoon, 4 platoons in a company, but one platoon would be a heavy weapons platoon which would give out mortar and machines crews to the other platoons as needed. The platoon would have three squads, one led by the platoon commander, one by the platoon sergeant and one by another high ranking sergeant. Each squad in turn would have three fire teams, which in theory would have a corporal or low ranking sergeant in command of that. I don't know how many medics a platoon would have, I believe just one (they take a long time to train and get killed a lot, they are expensive). I don't know the composition of the fire teams in WWII or… [cont.]

Asked by Joshua H - Tue Apr 8 12:40:51 2008 - Military - 9 Answers - Comments

A. Firstly, I would suggest that you visit your local Armed Forces Recruiting Office or perhaps try their website? Secondly, ignore the ignorant comments that have so far been posted. Army officers (in the UK anyway) command their subordinates, whether gobshite NCOs like it or not (they are not all like that... just the first contributor). Likewise, a silver spoon hasn't been a requirement for a very long time. It's your ability that they're interested in. Although if you want to join some of the more ornate regiments (eg the household cavalry) you're going to have a pretty hard time unless you have an independent income. If you want to join a service where you are truly judged on merit for EVERY job, try the Navy.

what is the highest rank in a army platoon?
Q.
Asked by marifesell - Wed Aug 6 04:08:54 2008 - Military - 6 Answers - Comments

A. An Army platoon? If you're referring to the designation given to a sub-unit of a company, then the highest rank would be a 1st Lieutenant. If you're referring to the highest rank in the Army, the president can appoint a 5 star general, formally known as General of the Army. It's only been historically used in times of great conflict though.
