How to choose a cast and crew in low budget filmmaking?
Q.

A. Whether you are going to ask friends, family, acquaintances, or approach fellow aspiring artists for the first time, choosing them wisely is important in order to create an environment that is efficient and productive for filmmaking. So what are the qualities you should be looking for? Experience in short filmmaking. Sounds obvious, but not everyone wants to work with experienced people, especially when theya re just starting out themselves. But if someone youa re considering to work with has experience on set, thata s a huge plus. You can benefit from actors who dona t get self conscious in front of a camera or crew, and anyone who knows how to dress a set, hang lights, and tape down wires and cords can save you time and keep the… [cont.]

Do you know where I could get Cast T-Shirts/Hoodies?
Q. I'm doing a play at school and was thinking of getting hoodies for protmotion and also so we have a Cast-hoodie but our cast/crew is only 6 people and most companies find this too small a number. Do you know any good promotional printing companies that supply and print on hoodies for reasonable prices? Sorry! Forgot to mention, in Australia...

A. I recommend There is also I've used both, as well as Cafepress. Personally, the t-shirts are better at Spreadshirt than the other two. Spreadshirt tees are good quality (both Zazzle and Cafepress have really thin t-shirt materials) and better quality printing. Spreadshirt can also print on both sides of black t-shirts; not something that Zazzle or Cafepress can do (or do well) as far as I know. ... I know this question talks about hoodies, but based on previous experience I'd recommend Spreadshirt for this too.

If they EVER did a Buffy TVS movie with the old cast and crew (SMG, etc), what would you want the plot to be?
Q. I have been struggling with too many relationship questions lately so I wanted to indulge a whimsical interest of mine. If Josh Weldon ever made a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie using the TV cast, in a SHORT 2-4 paragraph explanation, how would you outline the plot you would want the movie to have? Remember, Sarah and cast are not getting any younger.

A. His name is Joss Whedon! There would be a green demon and it would have been from LA so Angel and Spike would have followed it to Sunnydale. Dawn is learning magic from Willow who has managed to bring back Tara so Kennedy has settled for Dawn. So Willow is going out with Tara and Dawn is going out with Kennedy. Then the demon kills Dawn. Buffy comes home to find her dead and sees the demon running away. She screams and both Angel and Spike run into the house. Buffy is hysterical and in a bid to win her love once and for all they both hunt down the demon. Meanwhile Kennedy grieves and Willow is stuck between the girls. Finally Spike comes back with the demons body and Buffy falls madly in love with him. Then they discover that dawn died… [cont.]

Questions to ask the cast and crew on a film set?
Q. I've been given the opportunity to visit the set of an up coming film. Whilst i'm there i get to meet the cast and crew. I'll obviously want to ask questions, but i don't want to sound like an idiot?! I'm really interested in film production but i'm not very experienced, but i'm hoping to make a good impression so i could potentially get some work experience. so, if anyone has any ideas, let me know!
Asked by Krisi Chib - Sun Jan 2 13:42:27 2011 - - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Watch some interviews on YouTube to get an idea of what to ask. It really depends on the movie itself. Usually questions aren't really about just film production in general, but the productions of the specific movie. Like for Inception there were questions about how they made the anti-gravity scene in the hallway and how it really ended. We find out they made a machine for the hallway that rotates and the end of the movie is intended for the audience to decide Cobb's fate. Hope this helps, could you please answer mine?

How do I become an Actor in commercials, an extra, cast, or crew member?
Q. I have acted in productions in high school and college. I have not pursued any professional acting role but always thought that it would be fun. I do not have any formal training, but have found that I do have some natural ability. Does anyone have any advice, in this area, for someone with little "resume" experience? I am looking especially for advice from those that are currently working or have worked in this industry, though any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you for the great responses.. I live in Tampa, Florida..I am about 1 1/2 hours west of Orlando. Local opportunities a preferred. I am starting off part-time and see where this leads.

A. Where are you located? Your questions all have widely varying answers and it can depend on where you are as well! I'm in Los Angeles. First, to do commercials you should get into a great improv class (or two) and you'll need an agent, but to get an agent you'll need to build your resume. To build your resume I suggest doing student films and spec commercials, anything that will give you good material for your demo reel. If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the… [cont.]

A. It sounds like you had a great evening! Perhaps something addressed to the producer along the lines of "John -- please pass on our huge thanks to all the cast and crew. It was so marvellous to meet them after the wonderful performance of Romeo and Juliet last week. My friend and I were overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone we met, and we will treasure our photographs of you all. The play was really excellent and had us gripped from start to finish. We particularly enjoyed the exciting sword fights! Thank you so very much for making our evening."
