Not sleeping and manic bipolar?
Q. Ok, so I'm 15 and every once and a while latley I just won't sleep, like tuesday night I got into bed at like 12 and by 2 I hadn't fallen asleep and wasn't even tired, infact I had a lot of energy. So i watched to telly and went on the internet, and by 5 am, I was still wide awake so i went outside tot ake pictures, then I went for a run, then I cleaned for hours so when my mom woke up she'd be suprised. She said the fact that I hadn't even gotten tired in the night, or hadn't even slept for an hour really concerns her becasue it is manic behavior and can be a sign of (or maybe it was lead to) bipolar disorder. she works for a pharmasuital company and knows a lot about this . But bipolar isn't in my family, depression is though, a lot. I've [cont.]

A. First of: you're not bipolar, your 15. You are displaying a fairly normal circadian sleep pattern for somebody your age and right now your a hormone cocktail which will lead to outburst that look like mania. At worst it's insomnia which is treatable. Really at your age it's impossible to tell what, if anything, is causing this. If episodes continue into early adulthood than you might, MIGHT, have a case for mania, but without the depression (which again is hard to tell at your age) I wouldn't jump the gun.

Q. I want to go wireless on my home pc, I have Virgin Media broadband through a ethernet cable, my home pc is a Dell Dimension 3100c can anyone advice me what would be my best way of going wireless ? Would my internet speed remain the same? My lads play xbox 360 and I cant use pc or even watch telly when they play on it. Would going wireless help? Could the kids play it up the stairs and could I still use pc?

A. Buy a DSL router (NOT ADSL) and plug your virgin cable modem in to that. Argos do them for about PS40 Make sure you follow the routers instructions on Wi-Fi security as an open wi-fi is an invite to everyone. Any problems or questions email me as I must have setup about 40 of these last year alone.

A. No you should not worry about Bipolar... insomnia is a symptom of Bipolar but you have to have lots of symptoms for it to be bipolar... insomnia by itself is just insomnia. Everyone has moods like those of Bipolar Disorder... because everyone has mood swings, momentary loss of judgment, likes to go shopping, likes sex, feels down sometimes, gets angry now and then and is hyper on occasion. The difference is that all of these symptoms in Bipolar are so intense that they interfere with your ability to function. Think of a pole (bi POLEr) with 0 at the center (0 being normal) and 10 at one end (manic) and -10 at the other (deep depression). Most people have swings but stay within 3 to -3. I have fairly severe Bipolar 1 but since my psychosis… [cont.]
